Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar of its purpose. They often believe it is an island to the west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is often known as the place where she was born. However, she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. When she was a child, she wanted to be the next big thing in her career, but a sudden growth spurt made it impossible. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Some former dancers switch to acting and in Brugel's situation, it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school that pushed her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she go after a role in the annual school production. The student tried it out, and ended up playing the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. She was awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to go to York University's Theatre Program which she completed from the program in 2000, earning a Bachelor's of Fine Arts. The career of Brugel spans more than twenty years, and she's appeared in 60 different productions including big screen productions and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was only seen on a few moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
